Ultimate Geek Accessory

At last, we possessessss one of those old IBM Model 'M' keyboards! One of the few decent computer keyboards in existance. We've usually been using those Cherry G80-3000 ones until now because of the proper clicky keyswitches they use, but heard so much about these old IBM ones that when I spotted them on eBay I couldn't resist buying one as a pressy for Andy. A wee bit expensive, which is not surprising since they stopped making them many moons ago, but hopefully worth it.

Like the Cherry keyboard, and unlike most modern keyboards, they've got a proper tactile click, and feel almost typewriter like. Unfortunately Andy couldn't get on with it, and has gone back to the Cherry, as it takes a little more strength to press the keys and he was going slower. So I'm having to take over the use of the Model M instead, poor me eh? :)

Now I've finally got to use one, in my humble opinion, they are actually a tad better than the Cherry G80 models; an even stronger click, even a click on release, and a greater distance between the keys which helps to prevent you from accidentally hitting more than one key at a time. The keyboard is lightly curved from top to bottom, so that you don't have to reach-up for the function keys. On the whole, I do seem to be making less errors, although to be fair it is taking a little initial getting used to and it's not exactly a keyboard you can use at night unless you want to wake the whole house up!
